Sept: 22 / water temp 75 / cloudy and dodging rain.
Fished Fontana lake with several patterns today producing about 25 fish. Started off towards the back of Panther Creek looking for bait. Found good bait where the creek bottle necks in about 50 foot of water. Jigged 5-10 smallmouth and spots on spoons and drop shots. Next moved to mile 80 marker and managed a good number of small spots. Left the fish in search of bigger bites. Eased into and Lemons Branch and ran over piles of white bass. Clients could of caught a 100 bass if they wanted. Sat on them for a while till a storm pushed us home. All White Bass were caught on jigging spoons and Rapala swim jigs.
Tip: September fishing is a good transition time. Look for shad and bass to be migrating towards the back of creeks. Major points and secondary small coves often hold bass that are keyed on bait. As Oct. approached the bait will be well towards the back of the coves. Idle around in the channels looking for bait balls. Once you determine the depth of the bait you will know what depth the bass are.
